Lynn Wigginton

Lynn Wigginton was born and lives in Saint John, New Brunswick. A 1974 graduate of the Fine Arts program at Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick, she works in the "realist tradition" for which the school is noted. In 1995, Lynn collaborated with cultural historian Dr. Gregg Finley to produce a lavish book titled "On Earth As It Is In Heaven - Gothic Revival Churches of Victorian New Brunswick", published by Goose Lane Editions. The book was the culmination of over five years of intensive research and creative output for the artist. It features over 100 of her pen and ink drawings, washes and acrylic paintings. The works, which toured extensively throughout New Brunswick in a show curated by the University Of New Brunswick Arts Centre, are an unsentimental document of the history of a community, chronicling the growth and demise of churches in the province. The book was a finalist for the Atlantic Booksellers Choice Award in 1997 and its importance was recognized by an award in 1998 by Heritage Saint John Inc. Reviews of Lynn Wigginton's work, comment on her fine attention to detail and the luminous gem-like quality of her paintings. One reviewer noted that "Wigginton's love of her subjects is infectious". For the past quarter century, Lynn Wigginton has participated in group shows throughout Atlantic Canada. She has also had a number of very successful solo exhibitions throughout her native province. Her work is found in public, private and corporate collections throughout Canada, as well as in Britain, New Zealand, Japan and India. Lynn Wigginton is a visual artist working in the realist tradition who has a profound affinity and respect for the rich architectural heritage which she finds in Atlantic Canada. In her work, she explores and reveals the magical effects of light, shadow, texture, tone, depth and colour.
